NMERB Beneficiary Designation

Dear NMSU Employee,

We all want to know that our loved ones will be able to benefit from the investments we have built up over a lifetime of hard work.  To ensure that our wishes are implemented, beneficiary designations need to be kept up to date.  By periodically reviewing your designations for your New Mexico Educational Retirement Board (NMERB)-sponsored benefit plans, you can be ensured that your assets will be distributed according to your wishes.  Below are some questions and answers that might be helpful.

Do I need a beneficiary designation?

Yes, all active and inactive (non-retired) members covered by the NMERB should designate a beneficiary.  The ERB Form 42 must be completed to designate a beneficiary for your account.  See Section 22-11-29 (D)(E) & (G) NMSA 1978 and Paragraph (F) of 2.82.5.13 NMAC.
Faculty and staff in a regular, term, or temporary position, and who work more than 0.25 of FTE are covered by the NMERB’s retirement program and should have a beneficiary designation on file with the NMERB.

Who is my Beneficiary?

To request information and current beneficiary status with the NMERB, you may log onto to the NMERB website at http://nmerb.org/NMERB_Accout.html  to verify this information.  Your beneficiaries name should be listed on your account.
If your beneficiary’s name does not appear, you may send an email inquiry to ERB-memberhelp@state.nm.us to confirm you have a beneficiary in your ERB records.

How do I make changes to my Beneficiary?

Beneficiary(ies) may be changed any time prior to retirement. If you would like to make changes or updates to your beneficiary designation, You may submit the form via Docusign or complete the PDF Pre-Retirement Beneficiary Designation Form and submit the original form with the notary seal to the NMERB directly at the address listed below:
